Wimbledon 2021: Dress Like a Champion

It’s the end of June which can only mean one thing. No, we’re not talking about the Euros- it’s time for the annual Wimbledon tournament! Last year, the iconic grass court tournament was cancelled (like pretty much everything last year) due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But this year, after a long wait, Wimbledon is back and we’re getting in the mood for some strawberries and cream and watching tennis in the sun.

The tournament at the All England Club in London starts on June 28th and will run for two weeks. Despite many players dropping out for one reason or another, some of our favourites will be back to battle it out on centre court. Tennis legends including Serena Williams, Novak Djokovic, Rodger Federer, Andy Murray and Petra Kvitova are all joining the bubble and will be staying at the official Championships hotel in central London to reduce the risk of infection and ensure the tournament is as safe and stress free as possible.

Also set to return to the courts will be Coco Gauff who made her debut as a 15 year old two years ago, making it through to the fourth round! We can’t wait to see what this exciting talent brings this year and hope to see her get even further in the competition. And never mind the players, we can’t wait to see who will be making an appearance in the royal box. It looks unlikely that Meghan Markle will make a return but the Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton is a regular face and may well make a return this year alongside her husband Prince William.

Whether you’re lucky enough to be going down to Murray mound or watching along on TV, it’s time to get into the spirit and enjoy the summer sport in style. We have put together a list of pieces that will help you look like a Wimbledon pro wherever you’re watching the action when it kicks off on Monday!

Centre Court Style

When it comes to centre court style, it has to be all white everything. Wimbledon is notorious for it's strict dress code for players, from when they step into the grounds of Wimbledon they should be wearing almost entirely white clothing. That doesn't mean you can't have fun, women players are allowed cut out details and strappy tops. This outfit wouldn't look out of place on court and will have you feeling like the next Serena Williams!

Champions Ball

Ok, so we're not likely to ever be invited to the champions ball, but that won't stop us from dressing for the occasion! It is a sophisticated evening, with men opting for suits and bow ties and women going for elegant full length gowns. A beautiful gown like this would be perfect for the evening, or even if you're not going to the ball- it would b perfect for galas, special events and proms too!

Ball Girl

The ball boy/girl look is perfect for an active day around Wimbledon. In dark colours to contrast with the white clothing of the players, they look smart in the background. A polo top is classic ball girl attire and can be worn with a stretchy skirt or shorts to allow for some speedy movements chasing after the tennis stars!

Picnic on the Mound

A picnic on Murray mound (formerly known as Henman hill) in the sunshine is the day out we have been craving. Nothing beats a pot of strawberries and cream while you watch the action on the big screen outside centre court (or just catch some rays and enjoy the food). You might even be featured on coverage on the TV so you want to make sure you look your best! This is a great outfit to ensure you look stylish while you enjoy a day on the grass.

Royal Box Chic

Wimbledon has a strict dress code for spectators (even Lewis Hamilton was once refused entry!) and women in the Royal Box often dress in chic, smart dresses- no large hats or handbags. For inspiration, think Royal Box regulars like the Middletons, Victoria Beckham and Vogue legend, Anna Wintour. You will definitely need to ace your outfit to keep up with these fashionable guests!

Wimbledon starts on 28th June and will end with the finals weekend, when the women will be playing on the 10th and the mens final on the last day, 11th July.
