To the woman who has lost her spark...

“To the woman who has lost her spark,
To the woman whose get up and go,
Has well and truly gone.
This is for you.”

It’s no great secret that things have been very different this year. As we reach the pinnacle of Christmastime, don’t feel downhearted if you are having difficulty getting into the Christmas spirit.

If you’re looking at the dazzling, twinkling lights but are not feeling the spark – you are not alone.

If you are cosy under your blanket but are feeling a nagging icy coldness inside – you are not alone.

If you are feeling uninspired, unproductive and upset with the direction that life is taking you – you are not alone.

“This is to remind you that you don’t have to be everything to everyone, every day.
You didn’t sign up for that.
Remember when you used to laugh? Sing?
Throw caution to the wind?
Remember when you used to forgive yourself more quickly for not always being perfect?”

It’s ok to lose your spark once in a while, especially after 2020 has tested us all so much. If you are struggling right now, here are some things to remember.

Remember to keep going

If you feel stuck and that your inner light is dimming, try to organize your thoughts and summon the motivation to just keep going. Remember that you have pushed through difficult times before and come out stronger and wiser, and you can do that here too. Keep thinking positively and just keep swimming.

Remember that you are you

Often when your inner sparkle dwindles it’s because you have lost part of your true self. That’s not unusual given the year we have all had. A loss of routine, a loss of loved ones, a loss of jobs – it can all take its toll. Take some time to reflect on your beliefs and values and the things that are important to you. Remember that life events can throw you off balance but the core foundation that is you will never change.

Remember to care for yourself

If you’ve been neglecting your health through lockdown then this will invariably have an impact on how you feel. Feed your body and mind by eating well, exercising and resting and you will feel the warmth of your inner spark reignite in no time!

“You can get that back again.
You really can.
And that doesn’t have to mean
Letting people down or walking away.
It just means being kinder to you,
Feeling brave enough to say no sometimes.
Being brave enough to stop sometimes.
And rest.”

Losing your spark is not the end of the world but remembering to be kind to yourself, love yourself and give yourself the time you need is the only way to relight that spark and return with a blazing inner fire.
